Here is some data from the 2026 CDL season in case anyone out there wants to compare OOTP9 test sim injuries to a baseline amount of player days lost to injury in OOTP 2007. To compare
# of occurrences…. Description in game …. Total player days lost to injury(with notes)
2 x “about 3 days” = 6
10 x “last 3 days” = 30
1 x “about 4 days” = 4
12 x “last 4 days” = 48
1 x “about 5 days” = 5
16 x “last 5 days” = 80
13 x “last 6 days” = 78
1 x “about 6 days” = 6
24 x “last one week” = 168
11 x “about one week” = 77
62 x “1-2 weeks” = 868 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point)
56 x “about 2 weeks” = 784
28 x “last 2 weeks” = 392
7 x “about 2-3 weeks” = 147 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point)
11 x “about 3 weeks” = 231
6 x “about 3-4 weeks” = 168 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point)
12 x “about 4 weeks” = 336 (4 weeks = 28 days)
2 x “about 4-5 weeks.” = 70 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point)
1 x “about 5 weeks” = 35
2 x “about 6 weeks” = 84
2 x “about 6-7 weeks” = 98 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point)
8 x “about 7 weeks” = 392
1 x “about 8 weeks” = 40
2 x “about 8-9 weeks” = 126 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point)
3 x “about 2 months” = 168 (1 month = 28 days)
1 x “about 2-3 months” = 84 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point & 1 month = 28 days)
2 x “about 3 months” = 168 (1 month = 28 days)
4 x “about 7 months” = 784 (1 month = 28 days)
4 x “about 7-8 months” = 896 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point & 1 month = 28 days)
2 x “about 8 months” = 448 (1 month = 28 days)
1 x “about 10-11 months” = 308 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point & 1 month = 28 days)
2 x “about 11 months” = 616 (1 month = 28 days)
3 x “about 11-12 months” = 1008 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point & 1 month = 28 days)
1 x “about 12 months” = 336 (1 month = 28 days)
1 x “about 12-13 months” = 364 (rounding up injury range to it’s highest point & 1 month = 28 days)
1 x “about 13 months” = 364 (1 month = 28 days)
1 x “a CAREER ENDING injury” = CEI – count them separately!
If you add those days together that equals 9817 players days lost to injury in the CDL during January-December 2026. When I get some OOTP9 yearly data I will post to compare it. _________________ Paul Groening

Result after 1 test sim - 1,739 more injury days in one season using OOTP9.
So far it looks like the rumors are correct - an 8.1% increase in injuries using OOTP9 (in player injury days). Thanks to Chuck Groening for doing the initial studies of this concern.
For dev hit concerns the injury occurrences are pretty similar - 317 injuries in 2026 using OOTP 2007 and 309 injuries in 2029 (test year) using OOTP9. The difference is the amount of days the players are injured, that seems to have really spiked in OOTP9 based on this 1st test.
I will try to get data for at least 10 test seasons in OOTP9 to make sure this is an accurate representation of OOTP9, and also count up OOTP 2007 era CDL injuries during the 2025 and 2027 seasons in case our baseline 2026 was an unusual season.
Note: These tests are using the same league file and same injury rate settings in the game. _________________ Paul Groening

| Testing update: A friend reminded me of tweaking an 'injury.txt' file in the old OOTP days. If OOTP9 still uses this kind of file for injury frequency we may be able to edit it to have injury results closer to the way they were last year. I'll check this out later tonight. |

This thread is probably pretty confusing to read, but basically we have been doing large groups of test sims based on OOTP user complaints that long term injuries had increased in OOTP9, and we posted some assorted bits of these test results above. The average number of game days lost in over 20 test sims using the default OOTP9 injury settings was almost 9% higher than a 10 year average using OOTP 2007.
This is not the end of the world, but we have done some additional testing using an edited injury file where long term injuries are reduced, and the last 11 seasons of this test are included in the post above. Since the average number of injuries stays the same, that means if we reduce the long term injuries then there is an increase in the shorter term injuries like the DTD's. We'll likely switch to this new injury file for 2028, so if anyone has questions or concerns about this please express them soon:).
